Christmas Plaid Button Up Styled 3 Ways

Holiday outfit inspiration anyone? Today’s post is inspired by this festive button-up shirt from Talbots. Unless I’m at a sporting event or wearing an evening gown, I don’t usually wear red but I wanted to wear Christmas colors. This shirt is a nice compromise because the white breaks up the red and makes it more versatile for my personal style. I challenged myself to purchase only one item (the button-up shirt) and style four outfits using clothing I already have in my closet. Because formal events are less likely this year (at least, large ones), I went a little more casual. Even though gatherings may be smaller this year, I thought you’d enjoy a fun, light-hearted, styling post.

Here are four ways to style this top!

Hosting the holiday party

I tucked the buttoned-up shirt into a navy, faux suede skirt, added a pair of dangly earrings and slipped into knee-high slouchy boots. I’m wearing a tall pair of socks underneath but if you’re worried about getting cold, you could either wear nylons or opt for a longer skirt.

Concealed Carry – It’s not visible, but I’m wearing the Dene Adams thigh holster shorts. The shorts proved helpful for more than just carrying my firearm, I also tucked my shirt into them, and the spandex kept the shirt from coming untucked.

Another option is to layer a cardigan over the collared shirt and wear with jeans. Dark jeans and heels will dress the outfit up, while light jeans will make it more casual. I accessorized with a gold bracelet and earrings to match the tiny gold threads woven into the shirt material. I choose a pair of heels for a more feminine look, but you could wear boots and fuzzy socks, or even slippers when you’re indoors.

Concealed carry - For this outfit and the rest below, I used a Kydex holster made by Eclipse Holsters. Since these jeans are tight/supportive enough, I can use my Fabriclip holster without a belt. (Learn more about the Fabriclip here).

Going to a party with hostess gift in hand!

When trying on this tailored blazer, I was inspired to add a few dressy elements in contrast to the casual shirt and jeans. I think the black suede shoes and accessories add a touch of elegance. I choose a shiny leather bag and simple pearl earrings and to complete the ensemble. It would also be fun to add some sparkle with a pair of dangling chandelier earrings.

Cozy Night In

Wear the shirt unbuttoned, over your favorite sweater. The layers will help keep you warm and add a pop of color to make you look and feel more festive. Pair with comfortable stretchy jeans and you’re ready for a cozy Christmas Eve.
